I bought this book for a bit of light reading and thoroughly enjoyed it so thought I'd mention it on my blog. The book had lots of stories about the man himself and what sort of character he was. He seemed to be tolerated by the rich and famous even through all the things he got up to, theft, drinking, sleeping around and many other things. It was amazing he survived as long as he did through his war photographer days.
The book is well written and non-stop so you don't get bored reading it. I read it within a couple of hours and will read it again.
The Observer reviewed it and quoted - Robert Capas autobiography was titled 'Slightly out of Focus' and Kershaw is true to his subject in recognising Capas blurry inconsistencies. Packed with good stories and snappily written, Blood and Champagne is as full of life as the man it celebrates
The only thing is I wish it had put a few of his famous images in it as well, even though I recently saw a tv programme where some of these images someone has said he didn't take them, just took the claim for taking them, but then its an autobiography so should be more about him.
