Exercise 3.1 - using fast shutter speeds to freeze the moment

Freezing the water by increasing the shutter speed to a faster one and increasing the ISO to freeze the water droplets.

Freezing the cricket player as he is about to throw the ball

The bowler frozen in time as he jumps up to get ready to bowl the ball.

I used a 150-600mm lens to capture the cricket players.  i wanted shots of them bowling/batting and fielding.  I took a couple of test shots but they were not sharp enough so i had to increase the shutter speed.

This was nearly my best shot of the day, you can just see the bales in the air as the cricketer has been blowled and the ball just going out of shot on the right.

I should have used continuous shooting but this was my first attempt at sport photography and Im quite pleased with it.

Exercise 3.2 - using slow shutter speeds to create movement

After looking at some images from Francesca Woodmans work on self portraits and movement I decided to try and do some of my own.

This image has some blurring on it from a longer exposure and 3 images stitched together to suggest movement.

Its an image i took of myself to show frustration at being a carer and is a project i want to develop further.

There is a butterfly image on the netting (top left) which looks like its in flight which also suggests movement even though this isnt a real butterfly, I like the way it imposes itself onto the image to suggest it.  It gives the image deeper meaning.

The same image as above but with a 3d filter on it.  Even without the 3d glasses its suggests more movement.

Exercise 3.3

I used this panorama as an example of what is in focus and whats isnt, instead of using foreground to background i wanted to show side to side.  It still has the same effect and sows distance as the people are sat by me and the stage in the background with the box seats.

The camera struggles with the extreme edges of the photo, getting everything in focus, but it has done a pretty good job in panorama mode.
